The prayer of King Solomon at the dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem. He asks God to always listen to the prayers of the people who come to the Temple, forgive their sins, bless and protect them, and show mercy to them even when they sin in the future. Solomon also prays for the foreigners who come to Israel to worship at the Temple, and asks God to bless him as the king of Israel. He concludes his prayer by praising God for His faithfulness and asking Him to continue to be present with His people.

SUMMARY:
After the death of Moses, God spoke directly to Joshua and chose him to lead the Israelites into the promised land. Joshua was tasked by God to be a leader.

In the first 9 verses Joshua is told to be strong and courageous. Each time is a different context: Verse 6: Leadership, Verse 7: Responsibility, Verse 9: Obedience.

You are also chosen by God to lead others to Christ. Seeking God’s plan for your life is comparable to Joshua accepting God’s mission for him to lead the Israelites.

SUMMARY:

Joshua 3 tells us the story of how Joshua prepared the people to cross the Jordan and go into the promised land.

Joshua rose early in the morning- this may be a small point (also it does not have to be
early morning for all of those who work nights and sleep later), it was how Joshua chose to show the example that he is a doer, takes initiative, does not procrastinate, and is diligent.

Joshua 4: The Memorial Stones

The Israelites are crossing the Jordan about to go into the Promise Land. This was a place of trust. They had to trust God with everything they had because the challenges were only getting bigger but so were the blessings.

➤ Remembering how God has stepped into our circumstances in the past
➤ Following His will step by step

Joshua 6: The Fall of Jericho

➤ Word was getting around about what God was doing for the Israelites
➤ Joshua and the Israelites had to follow God’s instructions completely. They were to surrender to Gods will no matter how weird. (ie. Blowing ram horns, circle the city over and over for 7 days)

🅠 Has God ever asked you to do something you thought was weird or uncomfortable?

🅠 Have you ever encountered opposition or mocking because of what God asked you to do. (ex. Maybe a friend/family member thought you were crazy for wanting to go on a mission trip.)

The book of Joshua is all about choices and consequences and how when we make decisions without God, everything can end in chaos, but with God we have blessings and victory.

SUMMARY:

Solomon questions the purpose of life.

1:2- “Everything is meaningless/futile/vanity”

MEANINGLESS: Having no significance or purpose or reason

FUTILITY: Incapable of producing any useful result, pointless, no matter how hard you work at something, nothing good will happen.

VANITY: 1. The quality of being worthless 2. Excessive pride in or admiration of one’s own appearance or achievements

Living life by earthly perspective or goals (Seeing things by human standards)
A sad outlook on life to live w/o God (How can life be important w/o God?)

Solomon began to realize the following points throughout his search for meaning

Life cannot be just about gathering things
Being wise can be a curse because you realize that life is nothing or has no meaning
Having this knowledge can bring about sadness.

Many times we seek our own achievements w/o God, but then expect spiritual intervention and can become angry and even blame God, asking God this question, “what did I do to deserve this ______ type of trial.

SUMMARY:

Solomon identifies 3 vanities of life. Pursuit of Wisdom, Self-indulgence (personal pleasure), and Labor

Solomon realizes that the search for wisdom has led to frustration because both the wise and the fool experience the same fate.

There is a song titled: “Cemetery” by a band called “Coin”

“Never made time for the family
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Only made time for the company
But he is the richest man in the cemetery”
In the song, even though the man had everything it could not keep him from ending up next to someone who had nothing. Our fates are sealed, we will all die some day.

BUT: HOW WE CHOSE TO LIVE WHILE WE’RE HERE MATTERS TO GOD.

The song speaks of being wealthy in the cemetery versus being poor. Abundance versus poverty.

We’ve been both, wealthy is better.
God wants us all to have abundance and to be happy.
Ask yourself why are we drawn to happiness, drawn to beauty, drawn to light?

SUMMARY:

In chapters three to six, the teacher tells us that there is a time for everything and that all of us will endure the same fate of death. We are told to enjoy the simple pleasures of life as gifts from God while we can because the wicked, just like the righteous, and even the animals will one day die. Life is unfair, but God will see that justice is done. Evil is everywhere, but God is good, and humanity's story isn’t over. Even though things seem futile, it is better to work and eat than to starve. It is not wrong to have money, but it is wrong to love it, to consider the material more important than the spiritual. In the end, the number of outfits in your closet won't matter. Pursue what your soul needs to be truly satisfied.

SUMMARY:

This chapter uses the style of Proverbs, making mention of practical wisdom. Frequently, we read that one thing is "better" than another, giving guidance for wise living.

SUMMARY:

In chapters 10 and 11 of this Ecclesiastes, the Preacher is going to give us wise counsel on wisdom and FOLLY, rulers, the unpredictability of life, speech, business, and your perspective on life.

FOLLY or foolishness refers to someone who lacks the proper fear or respect for God. He or she is therefore prone to go in the wrong direction in life.

SUMMARY:

Luke 15 is about lost and found. Jesus tells three parables dealing with lost items.

Schools, businesses, and churches all usually have a designated area called “Lost and Found.” People lose things all the time. They lose phones, keys, coats, and basically anything else that they have the ability to put down somewhere.

Nobody intentionally tries to lose something. Normally, when something is lost, it causes a lot of stress and frustration.

We serve a God who doesn’t just have a “come and experience” mentality; he actively pursues those who don’t know Him. The Pharisees listening to Jesus were very content with where they were in their relationship with God and saw no need to pursue the lost.

All Christians not only have the responsibility but the privilege of seeking the lost, whether it is friends, co-workers, or family.
